Ellie Jane Goulding grew up in England, Hereford. The day she was born was the 30th of December 1986. Tracey Goulding Summers is her mother. Her father Arthur Goulding comes from a funeral home-based family. Goulding came into the world in the year 2000. Her sisters are, Isabel and Jordan. The brother of her is Alex. Alex, her brother is an accomplished bassist and Hereford band part of the Hereford Band. When she was a child she was encouraged by her mother to learn music by her mother. As a young girl, she began studying clarinet. In her 14th year, she started writing songs. She didn't begin to pursue songwriting until her college period. Goulding began to develop an interest in electronic music while studying. Through MySpace Goulding was in contact with Frankmusik who was the producer of records and together they created their own style of folktronica. Her name was discovered during the time by the scout Jamie Lillywhite, who initially worked as her manager, before transitioning to the position of A.&R. in a college talent contest. Lillywhite linked her with musician Starsmith. Starsmith helped in November 2009 in the release of Under the Sheets which was her first single. The next album he worked on was her album Lights. Despite the fact that they released the album Under The Sheets under an independent Label Neon Gold Records, Polydor Records had already signed her contract.
